Minister of Worship & Music
Part-Time | Approximately 15 Hours/Week | $19,500–$23,400 Annually | Tucson, Arizona
New Spirit Lutheran Church is looking for our next Minister of Worship & Music.
We aren’t simply looking for someone who can sing, play an instrument, and put together a setlist. We’re looking for someone who sees worship and music as ministry — a leader, teacher, encourager, collaborator, and recruiter who can help people use their gifts to proclaim the Gospel.
New Spirit is an ELCA congregation in Tucson entering an exciting next chapter of ministry. Our worship blends contemporary Christian music with Lutheran liturgical and musical traditions, and we’re looking for someone who can help us continue developing a healthy, participatory, creative, and growing worship ministry.

What You’ll Do
As our Minister of Worship & Music, you’ll:
- Lead music for Sunday worship and major services and collaborate with the Pastor in worship planning.
- Come prepared and lead organized, productive rehearsals.
- Teach new music and develop musicians as worship leaders.
- Recruit and develop musicians from within and beyond New Spirit.
- Work closely with our Music Assistant and lead the Worship & Music Team.
- Review worship and provide constructive feedback that helps our musicians and media team continue growing.
- Collaborate with our media team on worship technology, troubleshooting, and recommendations for equipment and improvements.
- Help create opportunities for children and youth to learn songs of faith and grow as participants in worship.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with musical ability sufficient to lead contemporary congregational worship vocally and/or instrumentally.
Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone who can lead people.
Our next Minister of Worship & Music should be organized, prepared, creative, collaborative, dependable, willing to learn, and able to teach, coach, encourage, and hold volunteers accountable.
They should also be able to support New Spirit’s Christian identity, Lutheran theology, Core Values, and commitment to welcome and inclusion.
This is a lay ministry staff position. ELCA rostered-minister status and ordination are not required.
Who Is New Spirit?
At New Spirit, six Core Values help shape who we are and the ministry God is calling us to do:
Grace Comes First
Belonging Matters
Faith Changes Us
Love Shows Up
Mercy Is Practiced Here
Courageous Love Leads Us Forward
We believe church should be a place where people can bring their whole selves — questions, doubts, gifts, stories and all — as we follow Jesus together.
We also believe worship matters. It forms us, gathers us around God’s Word and Sacraments, gives voice to our faith, and sends us back into the world to love and serve our neighbors.
We’re looking for someone who wants not simply to fill a Sunday role, but to help us build what comes next.
Position Details

Compensation: $19,500–$23,400 annually, based on experience and qualifications
