Bring Your Stone

July 22-28, 2026

Pastor’s Reflection

We reached the end of our core values series on Sunday. Then, almost in the same breath, we realized we were standing at a beginning.

For seven weeks, we named the commitments that shape New Spirit: Grace Comes First. Belonging Matters. Faith Changes Us. Love Shows Up. Mercy Is Practiced Here. Courageous Love Leads Us Forward. These are not phrases to place on a wall and admire. They are promises about how we will follow Jesus together.

The communal mosaic gave us a picture of that life. No single stone created it. Members and visitors brought one piece at a time. The Holy Spirit did not ask anyone to do everything. The Spirit gathered what people offered and formed something larger than any one person could make.

That is how ministry happens here. One jar of peanut butter joins hundreds of others. One hat becomes part of a shelter from the cold. One meal, one conversation, one prayer, one invitation, and one courageous act become signs that love is real.

This week, do not begin by asking how you can fix everything. Ask a smaller and more faithful question: What stone can I bring? Then trust God to connect your offering to the gifts of others.

– Pastor Hartman

From Sunday’s Message

New Spirit’s core values are not slogans. They are gospel-shaped promises about how we will live together. Like stones in a mosaic, every person’s presence, gift, and act of love matters. The Holy Spirit brings those offerings together into a witness that welcomes people who have been excluded, serves neighbors in practical ways, and tells every person: you are loved, and you matter.

Bring your stone. Trust the Spirit to make it part of something beautiful.

This Sunday at New Spirit

Join us Sunday, July 26, at 10:00 a.m. for worship. Come as you are—questions, doubts, hopes, and all.

As we move beyond the core values series, we will keep asking how these commitments shape our worship, our relationships, and the way we show up in Tucson.

Life at New Spirit

  • Pray Without Ceasing – Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Join us for a quiet, contemplative service centered on the body of Christ, shared gifts, and prayer for our neighbors.
  • Peanut Butter Drive – Final collection Sunday is July 26. Sunday’s message celebrated the 1,000-jar milestone. Bring any jars still waiting at home so they can become part of the larger gift.
  • Sunday Worship – 10:00 a.m. In person and online.

Upcoming Opportunities

The next faithful step may be small: bring a jar, help with a ministry, invite someone to worship, check on a neighbor, or offer a skill that has been sitting unused. Watch New Spirit’s calendar and announcements for ways your stone can become part of the shared work.

Weekly Spiritual Practice

Each morning, pray: “Holy Spirit, show me the stone I can bring today.” Before the day ends, offer one concrete gift—your presence, encouragement, service, generosity, invitation, advocacy, or care—and notice how God connects it to something larger.

Prayer Requests

How can we pray with you? Share a request with Pastor Hartman or the church office. Requests may remain private or be shared with the praying community according to your wishes. This week we especially remember people facing hunger, housing instability, illness, grief, exclusion, and those without someone to pray for them.
